I teach ESL at a technical college and am looking for exercises and/or extenders on the grammatical area of 'Future in the Past'.

It is basically the verb form 'was/were going to'. If anyone knows any good site sources that I can print from, please share!

  1. Not sure what future in the past is.  Here are three possibilities:

Future perfect : I shall have completed the school year by May 31.

Future perfect progressive: I shall have completed the school year before applying for the teaching job.

Past progressive:  We were eating supper when the phone rang.

The watermelon was going to rot if the weather didn't improve.
