  1. over here in Australia they are specifically bred for the job at specific studs

  2. I've often asked this question, when seeing them out and about. It would appear many of them are ex race tb hevier boned horses.

  3. A lot of mounted patrolmen use their own horses. If they do not own a horse, or do not own a suitably horse, many are donated or bought by the sheriffs office

  4. Norco Mounted Police have bought  a few from my mother. They were all Morgans. & One of them has a plake( not too sure how to spell that word...??) in the sation with her name on it. She would do the fires with ALL her heart. She wouldn't spook when she was around them. They loved her!

  5. Around here, they ask for donations, and get them.  They request bay geldings over a certain height and within a certain age range.

  6. Many are donated from private parties...these animals have to pass vet inspection, learn to be spook proof, if they aren't already.  Must adapt to crowds, gunshots, "wrestle" with drunks and other DUI individuals, learn crowd control.

To really see them at work, "COPS" does filming at Mardi Gras....great video to see these horses in action!!!

    An inside track......................................
