Question:

Do you know where to get a mouth-release for a bow?

I have a friend who lost the use of his right arm after a stroke, but he still wants to hunt when bow season opens in 8 weeks. I've heard of contraptions for one-armed folks to shoot a bow and arrow, but I don't know where to find one. His heart is really set on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Dude, I thought you were smoking crack when I read your title!

Ha, jokes on me though.  I didn't know there was such a thing.. and I think it's great you are trying to help him hunt.

  2. Most States will allow a cross bow in that situation. I wish him luck but he needs to inquire on a cross bow or try one in the store to see if he will have problems latching the bow string.

  3. I would get in touch with the Physically Challenged Bowhunters of America at the link below.

A acquaintance of mine, Drew McCartney, started this organization.  Drew lost his arm in an electrical accident and shoots his bow with a mouth release.

What you are doing is great--the fact that your friend wants to gut it out and go afield is awesome!

    Good Luck and God Speed!

    Regards,

    Tim

Jonathan:  When you get to the site, click on officers, then go down to directors and you can get Drew's email address.  Tell him that Tim Boxberger from Russell, Kansas told you to contact him.  My in-laws live right behind his house!
