WHO AM I???

I got my first start in the #96 Ford after the regular driver was "ribbed" for getting arrested in Charlotte for of all things...reckless driving!!!

After strong showings I got a full time ride and won in my 16th start.

I wasn't afraid to take on the "established" crowd...I refused

to let them intimidate me.

After a few years a sponsor came along who said I was a perfect fit.

Now matter where I went (team to team) they always came

along for the ride.

When news came that they wouldn't sponsor me anymore

and that my car would be a new color I never realized what

that would do for my career.

Some say I became a super star while others said I became

a super jerk....which do you think?

I was a threat week in and week out even in a "rainbowed" color car

which I didn't care for but the fans loved it.

I left racing at the pinnacle of my career....destined for greater things with no looking back. Do you know who I am?

My first guess would have been Jeff Gordon. But the hint saying he moved from team to team puzzled me, and it says that he left at the height of his career. And it also said he drove a rainbow car.. Dale Senior didn't drive a rainbow car.. Hmmm....well, there was the 2000 Winston.

Dale Sr, but the end threw me off when "I left racing at the pinnacle of my career....destined for greater things with no looking back." that made me think of retirement not death.

Its Dale Sr...and the "rainbow" colored car was the Peter Max paint scheme Dale drove in the 2000 Winston.  He said it was the ugliest car he ever drove, but the fans loved it, many of whom bought the die-cast.

I dont want to sound like an idiot but I just read the part about "rainbowed" and thought Ernie Irwin (spelling?) skittles car. But I am almost 100% sure its not him.

Dale Sr.  I don't know about the "rainbow" colored car though.   And leaving racing with no looking back...thats what clinched it for me. If a driver retired he can have second thoughts. Not if one passes away.   He went on to "greater things" so it has to be Sr.

Jeff Gordon is still racing.

Can;t wait to see what the "rainbow car" is.
