Do you laugh at PC addicts who grossly overpay for hybrid cars so they can feel holier than thou?

I do. Not too long ago there was some press coverage of hybrid owners having a hissy fit because they paid a huge premium for their Politically Correct Mobiles and they weren't getting anywhere near the advertised mileage. I laughed my **** off at them.

  1. I guess it depends on why they buy them.

Sure, if they're only doing to "appear" environmental then yeah.

But if they're truly worried about our environment and are just trying to make the world a better place then no. I actually get angry. This is what's wrong with the politics - big corporation America of today. We need a government that promotes the research, development and institution of alternate energy. These car companies should receive tax breaks for producing hybrid cars and receive increased taxes for producing low-mileage cars. Instead, places like California tax the citizens for buying the cars. It needs to start at the top, not the bottom, with the company that can afford the tax, not the citizens.

  2. They won't be over priced if more people buy them. I for one would like to support any idea that takes us away from dependency on oil.

  3. Well I think its a lark.I'm all for new technology, dont get me wrong, but I would like to know if they bought it for practicality, for economical reasons,or just to make them feel better about themselves. Its still early in the hybrid market, only time will tell if they are worth the price,as far as resale, maintenence.I wonder what the upkeep is on them.It does irk me that we have enough capped wells to supply us with oil,we are just being forced to believe there is a shortage of fossil fuels. They capped a lot of wells in the US back when surplus drove oil prices down to the point of capping US wells(and theyve never uncapped them because of environmentalist wacko's)Me,I prefer my chevy silverado.

  4. No more than I laugh at owners of Chevy Behemoths and Ford Leviathans who can't afford to fuel them and can't unload them on the used car market.

  5. No, I laugh at people who drive Behemoth-mobiles that get about a quarter of the 45 mpg I get and have four wheel drive for all the off-roading they do driving two children to soccer practice.

For what its worth, i know several Hybrid owners, myself included, and none of us have had "hissy fits". We all love our cars (and incidentally, one is a conservative Republican, and another is kind of an apolitical centrist.)

  6. It's laudable to attempt to be socially responible. I'm sure you think it's funny when kids get asthma from gasoline fumes. I bet you love paying $3.00+ for gasoline. Right?

  7. They do seem way over-priced. I have a 99 Accord that gets 30 mpg freeway-it's good enough for me. It doesn't make sense to me to pay a lot to save a little. If hybrids get less expensive, then they will be a good idea.
