Do you learn how to direct in Tecnical Theatre?

I'm taking it to prepare for directing so I wanna know if they let you direct plays

  1. Not specifically, no - if you want to direct a directing course would be better.  Technical theatre students will do stage management (at least, on most courses), lighting, sound, props, set and wardrobe, but I don't know of any technical theatre course where you get to direct.  However, any technical knowledge you gain will stand you in good stead when you're directing - if you understand what your lighting designer has to do, then it makes life much easier.


  2. Everything you learn about lights, sound, costumes, and sets will help you as a director.  Actors can concentrate just on acting, lighting designers can concentrate just on their lights, and so on.  But directors have to oversee every aspect of the show.

  3. I would say no. Technichal theatre is mostly lighting and sound and stage crew.
