at a buffet discard plate and spoon.  get a knew one of both.

I leave in on the plate. Sometimes if it's left in the dish it can get hot and burn your fingers.

Depends... if the buffet has a supply of utensils and plates at the food serving area then when you finish with a plate, place all your used and even unused utensils on the plate to be removed by the server.  Anytime a supply of fresh plates and utensils are available, it is expected that you use them.  The last thing the restaurant wants to see is you going back for seconds with used plates or utensils in your hand.

Truthfully, even if they don't have a supply of clean utensils, I will ask for new ones if I decide to get seconds....

Oh, and just in case this question was truly about restaurant etiquette (not just at buffets)...

There's a simple trick to multiple utensils.... work your way from the outside to the inside (shrimp fork, salad fork, entree fork, etc...).  Each time you use a utensil, you leave it on the plate/bowl you used it in.  napkins go on the lap (not shirt or table).  Elbows stay off the table.  Forks are used to scoop, not stab.  Soup is spooned away from you and never "slurped" (tipping of the bow to get the last drops is frowned upon).  Never reach in front of anyone, ask for an item to be passed.  And place your napkin on the last plate you want that evening (entree plate if you don't want desert, desert plate if you do).

I usually put my fork on the plate unless they come to take the dirty plates in which case I put the fork on my napkin.

I usually put it back where I just found it.

But, if their is a special hole/holder, i put it back in there.

its really upto you becuase u can always get up again n again to get a new everything but if not u can just put on napkin on ur table for the next meal
