I have always used the baby bjorn with my 3 other children. I am now preg with my 4th and don;t have anything baby anymore. I was wondering if the slings are more comfortable and better for active mom? Is it also good for breastfeeding?

  1. I also had a Bjorn with my first two, but I've not used it with my third since I like the baby sling carrier better.  With my sling and a nursing cover, I can breastfeed anywhere.

I made one with this pattern. It's pretty simple to do, and only uses 2 yards of fabric, so you save a bundle!:

My sling is custom made to my measurements, so it fits very comfortably. However, now that she's 7 months old, I can't wear her for over an hour without feeling tired in my back...she's getting to be a big girl now!

If you plan on doing a lot of baby wearing, the Ergo Baby Carriers give you a lot of options even for an older baby or toddler, and is supposed to be very back-friendly for long periods of carrying baby.

I've heard great things about the Ergo . They are a bit pricey, but they are supposed to be the best, and they have a 90-day money back guarantee. The site below has lots of testimonials from parents who love their Ergo carriers, and a video on the link below that shows how they are worn.

  2. I recently bought the Moby and I love it, its very comfortable to wear, doesnt strain your back or shoulders, it takes a bit to work out how to put it on.

  3. I have a pouch sling that gets a lot of use around here....and my daughter turns 21 months old tomorrow. We mostly use the hip carry position, but I have on occasion used it in the back carry...it works well for both.

However, I didn't use it much when she was a newborn. Not because it didn't work (I've heard rave reviews with slings and breastfeeding) but because I simply didn't know how to use it properly. Which meant I got frustrated, threw it in the closet, and found it again after my daughter was 1. Like I said before, it is used daily around her now....

  4. It is very good for breastfeeding. I love my sling. My son is 10.5 months and still use it daily. I have a Snugli and I dont think it is as comfortable.

  5. I have a ring sling and I love it! I dont think I could do without it!

My son is 7 months old and loves to be held so it allows me to get things done while holding him. It is great for breast feeding too! I can walk around the store and no one even knows that he is eating.

I think slings are much more comfy for mom and baby.

  6. I use an ergo-carrier starting with it at about 2 months of age. The carrier is excellent for hiking, and all house and garden work that does not require action close to the ground. I manage to use a shovel with the carrier, but draw the line at cleaning my chicken coop.

I also have slings, but I didn't like them that much, because the knotting was more difficult than the simple closing of the ergo carrier, and the weight is more on the back and shoulders with the sling. The ergo-carrier puts a fair percentage of the weight on the hips, which I find more comfortable.
