  1. yes, i am currently taking it, and i love the discipline. it is also very good exercise.

  2. yeah i used to like tae kwon do and i love sparring people who have done tae kwon do.

it can be really good but it really depends on how the instructor trains you.

  3. Tae Kwon Do has some interesting things and beautiful techniques but it is nothing more than a sport today. I do not appreciate how watered down they have made authentic martial arts because they will sell a belt to anyone, regardless of skill.

I was in Korea eight years ago and watched two American college girls who only had six months of training go into the Kukkiwon and pay $150 each, perform one hyung and one-step sparring and get their first dan black belt. They both were terrible at their techniques and it showed me why I had stopped TKD training in the late 1980's.

  4. Yup. But I like most martial arts/combat sports/fighting methods.

  5. yes.

  6. yes

  7. no

  8. Yes, I love it.

People are making the argument that since you can get your black belt in 3-4 years it has lost all it's credibility as a "real martial art" (though they have never given any base line for what a martial art is).

Getting your first degree black belt is just the begging, it's not like people think you have mastered the art by getting one black belt, you still have to advance your black belt status and go to higher degrees like you do with a color belt. What happens is all the white suburban kids get their black belt and think they're masters so they quit. You still have to work hard for a number of years, the belt system is just different.

People say "Well you can just BUY a black belt". Well with the advent of the internet you can BUY a black belt and say it's for any martial art, you can even have "Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu" sewn into the d**n thing at your local tailor.

  9. Its really cool.

learning how to 360's and flips are gona be the most amzing thing you'll ever do in TKD- so yeah man do TKD!

  10. from what i noticed in my tkd experience:

the rules for sport are a little overboard

and the self defense is inefficient and incomplete

while i do think there is value in experiencing tae kwon do, i am glad i moved on from it, and didn't limit myself to this style.

  11. yup
