UFC is now heavily regulated with more rules and weight classes with rounds. Back in the day in the early UFCs there were no rounds and no rules that would restrict fighters from using certain moves as punching in the groin or the back of the head along with others.

Do you like UFC better with the new rule changes or do you like how it was back in the day with very little?

  1. The UFC has always had rules. It's just that it had 'fewer' rules when it first started. I like Iron Ring a whole heck of a lot better than the UFC. In Iron Ring they let the fighters do a lot more damage to ther opponents before the referee stops the fight. In Iron Ring if one of the fighters doesn't make weight, he can offer his opponent 25 percent of his fight money to fight him despite the weight difference. Iron Ring is closer to real fighting than the UFC.

  2. I like it better now. It is more like a real sport, you actually have to be somewhat gifted rather than just strong. Like wrestling skills, jujitsu, etc, things that take brain as well as strength.

I remember watching it when it first came out and it was just nasty. Really who wants to watch someone get their head stomped repeatedly and kicked in the nuts and totally bloody?

Maybe some people think that is entertaining but to me it really isn't a sport and wasn't going anywhere. Look how many more people watch now that it isn't considered some kind of freak show where you don't know what the h**l you are going to end up seeing.

It has also gotten alot of young and older people men and women interested in mma.

  3. This sport is about to become what i would like to call cupcake.  I have watched the UFC since its exsistance and up to the fight tonight and the rules are getting in the way of this true gladiator sport becoming "soft".  No elbows to the back of the head, side of the head, pulling hair, holding gloves, this is getting rediculous.  It is like any company that is growing, they have to implement more rules to have control and control is what this is all about.  Its not about TV, because the draw is pay per view and not primetime TV.  If it gets any worse, i think i will ban UFC from my house.

  4. The new rules are better.

Trust me, the FCC would not allow the old UFC to ever make it to Network TV. Plus, it's much safer for the fighters themselves, which is the most important thing.

  5. I agree with what the views of Anderson Silva and his management are. There are too many rules. They should be simplified to "No Biting" . . . "keep the gloves on", but that's it. No-holds-barred! We are looking for the world's top fighter, right? How can we know who that is if we don't let them bring everything they have to the table. As for "safer for the fighter?" Look, it's like the Roman Colosseum in there, w/o the animals and chariots. It's a war and these guy's know what they're getting their self into when they enter that ring. NASCAR is the same way. I wouldn't feel sorry for them if they got seriously hurt. MMA is a battle of 2 humans and the point is to FIGHT! NASCAR drives around a track at over 200 mph. They know the risks, it's their choice and they like to live life on the edge. Let's not deny them their passion. They're fighters. History has been chalked full of 'em. To h**l with the FCC; the world's a cruel and loving place. Show it all for what it is and don't deny me the right to see it. If you don't feel safe doing it, then don't do it! A lot of fighters are expressing frustration over the rules. Anderson Silva lost a match because of them. It was a sweet move, he was the better man! Oh, well. I'll put my money on him any day in a back alley.

  6. i personally preferred when it started and anythng went, watching royce gracie dominate people 2 times his size and strength was more in line with what true martial arts have to offer. in a real fight you cant stop and say "hey... no biting and no groin shots" because youd be laughed at. today its a sport and it is entertaining as a sport but back then it was entertaining as 2 guys trying to prove who was the better fighter regardless of size, rules and style. it really appeals to the primal side of a lot of people. fun stuff really.

  7. I agree with the other answerers that its safer now, but 4 some reason i like watching it back then, especially different weight classes fighting each other.

  8. Well taking punching in the groin away is always a good thing lol the only things i wish they could do is the upkicks they can do in pride when on the ground. This stops the guy from wanting to take u down and makes a better fight. Other then that i like the rules in the ufc better. Punching in the back of the head, groin is cheap.
