I'm homeschooling my three kids. I would like some opinions from people that are or have been homeschooled. Please no rude comments or profanity. Thanks.

  1. I homeschool my two kids. I love it. Do I have days where I'd like to throw in the towel? Yes. Most people have jobs that are like that. But 99% of the time, it's very, very good.

My kids have friends, meet new people all the time, are being well guided in terms of social behaviours and questioning things, they get their academics at their pace and we can include a lot of their interests, lots of free time so it's very relaxed... Plus I get to be with them, raise them, they get to be good friends, learn to help each other and support each other and more.

  2. I have no experience in homeschooling, but i don't think it's a good idea. I know that you are concerned about the environment in schools, but do you want your children to be isolated from the society? I think it is better if you send them to normal schools, and you can keep them in the right track by just getting their trust and talking to them. I don't think any kid can have more fun in homeschooling than in normal schools. But it is your choice.

  3. I was home schooled for the last half of my freshman year and my somphore year. Now I went back to school my junior year and I just can't deal with it. Home school is so much easier and I actually learn things!

While my mother doesn't home school me the school sends out a teacher and opposed to regualr classes you learn so much.

  4. I've had ups and downs, but overall homeschooling has been a good experience. Definitely better than what I'd be going through at my local high school. (It's a bad school and I'm a nerd. Not a good match.)

The people who speak against homeschooling are usually not homeschooled -one person a few answers up said that he has no experience with homeschooling, but...- or did it poorly, or in a bad place for it. Rural Oklahoma is not the best place to homeschool your kids. School is the only place they're going to meet people. A friend of a friend -both schoolers- has decided that homeschooling is terrible. Why? Because in the middle of the school year she got hurt pretty badly and was stuck at home for three weeks. Or, as she put it, "Homeschooled for three weeks." She was not homeschooled; she was unwillingly taking a break from school to recuperate. She left right in the middle of everything, wasn't out long enough to join anything, and couldn't leave her house. Of course it sucked. It ticks me off that she's using that experience to bash homeschooling.

There is the occasional homeschooling failure. There are a few kids who would have been better off in school. Sometimes homeschooling wasn't great, but school would have been worse.

    Overall, homeschooling is pretty good.

If I have kids, I'm going to homeschool them until high school, when they can pick. Maybe I'm hovering and old-fashioned, but I think that a 4-year old is too young to spend every day away from home. Also, it seems like after I've spent nine months being pregnant and a few years while the kid mainly cries, I kind of deserve some fun time with my progeny.

  5. I would really hate to be homeschooled, especially when your child grows up, they are going to hate not having many friends or seeing new people, and they will be lonely..

  6. Absolutely love it. I hate sending people on scavenger hunts, but have a look at some of my other answers if you have time, as I have some very strong opinions about homeschooling. I'd outline them here, but it's well after midnight, and my head is pounding so I'm off to bed.

  7. My homeschooling and unschooling made me what I am.

The only thing I got from brick school was essential math and what English grammar and Spelling I posses.

I did get something from my plastics course in middle school!  It helped me make my own color head for my enlarger.

  8. Personally, I have never been homeschooled, bt about a 1/3 of my friends have been. There are mixed reviews, but most of them have said(when they come back to regular school or go to college) that they wish they had been more exposed. I think home schooling can be okay, but don't shelter your kids more than you have to, otherwise they will never make it in life after homeschooling.

  9. Well, my daughter in asleep at the moment. But, she would say she loves it. She's ten and has been homeschooled for a couple years now. It changed all our lives for the better.
