Storm coming

by C.S. Scotkin

Winds chastise trees;

some oranges will never

see the dawn of December.

Winds spit sand

through the screens

my chair rocks crazily…

Suddenly cooler

by twenty degrees

of separation from the day.

  1. I love evening storms more then your poem that's for sure.

  2. An interesting visual piece of prose "Winds spit sand" I like that.

When I was a kid, oh, some 70 years ago now. I would sit on an old sofa up in my bedroom which overlooked a field. I would watch the lumbering dark clouds roll in on thunderous wheels. All against a background of a slate blue of the sky.

  3. Great images of the evening storm.  I love the chair rocks crazily and suddenly cooler by twenty degrees.  Oh, I like each stanza!  Well done.

  4. I love evening storms. I'll go out on the front porch and watch the lightning, and if I'm feeling especially zany, I'll go out and dance in the rain. What I'd give for it to be twenty degrees cooler here, though.

  5. From my Summer Kitchen/study I watch the storms over the waters. I prefer afternoon storms, so that I can see Ocean in all his moods.

To me, an afternoon storm can be an afternoon delight.

Storms in the dark bother me.

  6. Winds gather up whispered leafy thoughts

soaked by the mornings dew and then send them

spraying down on me, leaving their essence

seeping into my hair, dripping into my mind.

    ... I do love storms

  7. "Degrees of separation from the day" great line! I like this style.

  8. Indeed!  I relish them.  The sudden spiral of temperatures...down (in some cases) from the daytime high of 90 to 50...is a real treat.  The rains, since we live in a high desert area...are more than welcome.
