  1. lets say this i used to like flying until i became an aircarft mechanic!!! i would rather take a train

  2. I like to fly, hate the bus.... trains aren't very viable where I live in Florida and the one's I've seen recently look dirty and uninviting.  Train travel is really fast becoming a lost part of our American Heritage and history.  Planes are probably the most efficient way to travel unless you like to drive like I do.

  3. I am never comfortable flying.  I don't like sitting around in the airport between flights either.  I don't see how they managed to make that whole experience so incredibly unpleasant.  It doesn't need to be.

The bus would be just like flying in slow motion, so we drive everywhere unless it's more than about 500 miles. Even then we drive sometimes.  Trains aren't a consideration, but I wish they were more readily available.

  4. I've probably taken close to 2 dozen Amtrak rides.  Always a civilized and pleasant travel experience, and that's important to me.  I'll fly too, but nobody really expects "pleasant" to figure into flight.

You hear about all the Amtrak delays, it's true, it's the nature of the beast.  But then, even though I've taken 2-day train trips almost a dozen times, my worst delay ever was on JetBlue.

Guess who handles it more nicely, well, not JetBlue, and they're as good as planes get.

  5. the train is my choice of travel

  6. I have flew alot more than I've taken the train, but if & when I have the choice, I'd always choose to go by rail. I believe that taking a train is a great way to relax & see the country side while traveling, which you don't get on a plane. Also, trains can haul as many or even more passengers than even the largest plane can. One way trains can do that is all you have to do is add on more cars to handle more people. Alot more efficient considering that busses can carry nearly as many passengers as trains can, & because trains can haul as few or as many people as you need due to (again), the fact that all you have to do is adjust the # of passenger cars the locomotives are towing, if it gets to a point where the existing locomotives aren't enough power for the train, all you do is add on another locomotive, pretty simple compared to having to book another flight or having to get another bus.

  7. I don't like to fly- I'm tall and can never seem to get comfortable. I love the train- lots to do, able to walk around watch movies, play games, socialize with other passengers. I always get a sleeping car. This way, I have a private room to use during the day for just reading or relaxing and I can always get a good nights sleep. The trains are subject to delays, but as long as you are not in a hurry and can learn to relax, the train is the only way to travel. I highly recommend it.

  8. If I had the choice and the time, I would love to ride the rails again. I was only seven years old, the last time I had the chance to do that. It is a mode of transportation, that is slowly dying. Too bad.

  9. love to fly, trains are nice for the scenery, I hate buses

  10. Over 300 miles-- flying.  Under 300 miles-- driving.  To a major city like NY or Boston-- anything but driving because you can buy a plane ticket for what it costs to park your car for two days in either of these cities.

  11. I dont like flying, dont like anything about it, not the airports, not the cramped seats, not the baggage checks.

But, I have family in Alaska, so for trips like that, air is the only way to go.

buses are worse than planes, just as crowded, dirtier, and slower, I would rathar stay home.

If you have the time, and you are vacationing, trains can be a delightful way to see things, you can get up and move around, you can get a nap, but if you are in a hurry or if you are a typical class A personality that cant deal with inactivity or learn to relax, trains may not be a good option.

I have had some wonderful trips on trains, I cant say that for busses or planes.

  12. I LOVE to fly! Its also the safest way of trave; :]

  13. I don't like flying, I like train but dont use them often, i do like riding buses, but the ride is always bumpy for me
