Do you like living in Puerto Rico and are people moving in to PR?

I have family living in Puerto Rico, non-nationals and they are doing quite well, also have expat friends doing very well with their businesses. Most of the posts I read here complain about high crime, a new wave of people leaving the island, dirty and run down places and how they are much better off in the States and should pack and leave. I honestly would like to know is it really that bad? I would like to hear from "expats", foreigners happy in Puerto Rico, surely there are some?

Also ok, lots of people are moving out, is anyone moving in to take a new career? Are any boricuas actually returning to the island? According to one article, some actually regret moving to USA due to the current climate, is the grass really greener on the other side?

Thank you for your answers.

A very confused gringo

  1. I live in New Jersey.. My family live all over Puerto Rico and the world. Know I Live here because I'm set in my career. If you can handle the summer all year then go for it. I will be returning to my homeland in the future. Know the jobs in puerto rico are like any where else. If you have a title like a Doctor, lawyer or your going there to start your own business; then you'll do just find and as you know we speak both Spanish and english. As for lil crazyss that made her comment b4 me? Crime is every where. You'll always have your good and your bad all over the world some worse then others. I can say for myself I have never witness any crime nor got into trouble the 22 yrs I've been going to P.R. Isla Verde, Humacao, Culebra, Ponce, Isla mona are all great places to visit ddon'tforget Palmas Del Mar,Conquistador and Old San Juan...

  2. some people move to puerto rico but they dont like white people

  3. I am from Puerto Rico, left there 5 yr ago because I could not find a good job that would pay me well. So I moved to the States. I like it. But is all relative. There is crime everywhere, run down places everywhere so PR is no different.  There are people that move to the States and cannot make it and have to return to the island and they prosper. So I would say half and half. Do some research, you can actually find great places to live in PR and get jobs. Me personally I would not return for now. I am doing ok. But crime and jobs are the main reason people leave. The climate is great in PR: summer all year long, the beaches are great, people are nice, the food is awesome so I would recommend at least a try.

  4. honey, in this world their is no green grass in the other side for free. PR is even more expensive than the states and mean people as well, you could see the pity on their negative attitudes (im boricua but sadly have to say the truth). business is good depending in peoples interests (mostly food and restaurants). the climate is HOT as h**l and cool near the coast and mountains. the crime rate is low compre to past years and the crime related in the area its only for dealing drugs or being in trouble with bad underworld people, otherwise its very rare to get killed randomly or for no reason. oh, and who ever ignorant said we dont like white people has to go back to high school and learn that we are a mix of spaniard (which is white people), african (black people) and taino (native indian). so yeah, we do like any race and their is lots of asian people as well who are boricua asians, race is not an issue, but government, politics and economic mess is.
