  1. It's HOT!!!!!

But it's pretty cheap to live here.

  2. Texas is amazing. The people are friendly, the weather's nice (okay, well, usually), and I've lived here since I was born.

  3. We have lived in Vermont, Chicago and Tulsa, Ok. and have lived in Texas for several years, in 2 different Dallas suburbs.  We love it here.

There is no state income tax. The cost of living is one of the lowest in the country.  The economy is still fair here compared to the rest of the country. Although the summers are hot, it's not usually humid in the Metroplex, and the winters are mild, having snow/ice once or twice a winter and gone the next day. The people are very friendly.  Suburban schools are good to great, however like most inner city schools Dallas schools aren't very good.  There's plenty to do in the DFW area.  Lots of museums, a planetarium, an aquarium, Six Flags, Hurricane Harbor, wax museum, pro football, baseball, basketball, hockey, minor league baseball teams in  2 suburbs, NASCAR racing, horse racing, 2 zoos, plenty of parks, several lakes, countless churches, restaurants galore, several malls, even the nations largest flea market Traders Village.

What's bad about the area?  Mainly traffic congestion and pollution which you'd find in any major city.

I hope this answers your questions about Dallas.  All I can tell you about the rest of the state is that West Texas (Midland, Odessa area) is hot, dry and dusty, and has real cowboys.  Amarillo has cold winters with lots of snow and the wind blows there 365 days a year.

Houston is very hot and humid and the traffic is a nightmare.  Austin is a pretty college city.  San Antonio is a very good city to vacation in, but I don't know anything else about it.  East Texas is beautiful green country (Tyler, Longview) where the good ole boys live. About the only difference between Dallas and Ft Worth is that Dallas is a little more cosmopolitan than Ft Worth, but it's really almost like one big city.

  4. Well, I like do like living in Texas. The climate isn't that bad during the winter (where I live, in Dallas, it can snow maybe 1,2, or 3 a year), but the summers are killer. And there's lots to do in the state. Go to the beaches on the Gulf Coast, visit the Riverwalk in San Antonio. Go to the Caverns north of Austin and visit the canyons of West Texas. The schools are pretty bad, as you can see, my spellings excellent. And unlike the other Gulf Coast states, we don't get pounded by hurricanes or tropical storms often and most of the time, its nice and sunny out. And you're not that far from the border, so you can go to Mexico anytime.

  5. Dallas TX is where I will live until the day I die. Love it to death. Everytime I travel, no matter how other places wows me, I always come home to a happy place called Haltom City, TX.

  6. I live in a north Dallas suburb, and LOVE it!  I lived in Southern California for MANYyears, and wish I'd moved here sooner:)  The people are wonderful;  the housing prices are great and good quality;  schools are wonderful; and there are many family-oriented activities.  I'm not sure why people complain about the weather in Dallas.  It's no hotter than Southern California, and not that humid either (it's not close to the ocean or gulf).  There's virtually no crime north of Dallas (McKinney, Allen, Lucas, Fairview); and the traffic isn't bad at all either.  Great shopping & restaurants  ...Bad things?  I hate the fire ants!  And, I'm having a hard time adjusting to the clay soil, because I like to garden - but that's it:)

  7. lkps, I'm a native Texan from San Antonio.  Your question is impossible to answer.  Texas is a pretty big place?  You moving to Dallas, San Antonio, Houston or Austin?  There's a thousand other places in between?  Yes, it is a bit hot and humid in the summer, but we use this stuff called air conditioning? You won't have to shovel snow however?  Maybe once or twice if you live up in the panhandle?

  8. I live an hour and a half SW of Dallas.  Texas is the best of the best. Cost of living is lower than most other places in U.S..  It is HOT (espcially during July/August) but most people have A/C here.  Lots of things to do and the gulf coast isn't too far away.  I'm not a 'cowboy' and I don't ride around with horses and a buggy, but I do live in a town of about 508, but just 15 minutes away is most everything I need in Granbury, Texas.  And then 30 minutes to Ft Worth.  All I have to say is be prepared for different weather.

  9. I have lived in Texas all my life. If you love the outdoors and are proactive about finding fun things to do, you will like it. There are a lot of pretty places to move in Texas. I would strongly not recommend living in the Dallas or Houston areas.

Some school districts are great, some are not. You would have to be more specific. It does get too hot in the summer time to go outdoors. We get heat advisories and all the grass burns up. Not pretty!

There are a lot of different people in Texas. There are a lot of gangsters, rednecks, rich rich people, families and people you would find across the rest of America. Some are nice, some are weird!

I wouldn't recommend moving to Texas, but that's just me!

  10. What part of Texas are you moving to?  You do realize that it's a huge state and has different climates, right?  I live in Lubbock (western side of the state) and it's dry and hot here in the summer.  I haven't experienced a winter here yet, but it can't be worse than Minnesota winters (where I'm from).

  11. I live in the Dallas area, and I absolutely love it.

Mostly because I am a music freak, and there is lot to do with music down here.

You kind of have to adjust to the weather situation,

but I've lived here my entire life and couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

  12. I have been living in Texas since I was 12 (I am now 27) and I love it... there is no other state that I could possibly call home. I am from the Lubbock area where it is dry (it's 30% humidity when it rains..) and they have some good schools from pre-school right up to University level. We have something that I like to call West Texas fog and it's usually in the form of dust... but other than that the Lubbock area has a unique charm and beauty that you won't get in the other major cities, Amarillo and Midland/Odessa are very similar though. The farther south you go the more humid it gets... I am sure in Houston most of the residents have grown gills by now... :D

I know live in Arlington which I know love as well. Smack in the middle of DFW area... The humidity is higher than in Lubbock but not as bad as farther south and not as windy either. A lot of the schools in this area are c**p (Dallas ISD just instituted this year that the completion of homework is not required to pass the classes. I heard this on the radio this morning on my way to work) so if you do move to this area you will need to do some massive research on the public schools.

I wouldn't move to Houston or Dallas specifically as they are generally higher crime areas... but at least here in the Dallas area it's not so bad here in the suburbs to the north and west of the city (I don't know what is like in the South or East side of the city)

But over all people are very nice here... if you get a mean one then they aren't a true "Texan". Most people are blue collared (or are white collared that worked themselves up the chain) folk that are willing to do anything for a neighbor. Generally we have lower crime overall... and we do have decent education systems... like stated by someone else you just have to look for it.

Major cities that I like are San Antonio and Ft. Worth... they all have things for families to do. Lubbock doesn't have much yet but they are growing like crazy and it's a great (safe) place to raise a family... that city will always be special to me.

Austin to me is ok for a visit... I wasn't particularly impressed but that is just my taste... and Houston I am scared of and will only go with a group of people with and will NEVER drive there... :/

But that is my opinion on my great state of Texas... If you do move here I hope you love it as much as the rest of us here..

  13. I have lived in Texas for most of my life and refuse to move out of it!  Yea, you have a few people that are rude, but in general most people in Texas are the friendliest around!  Depending on where you live depends on the weather.  The Houston area is humid, the Austin area has perfect weather in my opinion (never gets really too hot or cold, has lots of trees, and it always pretty green), the West Texas area is mostly dry and hot which is perfect for people who enjoy boating.  There are tons of things for families to do here including things from Six Flags and Fiesta Texas, waterparks, outdoor activities (camping, fishing, hunting, ATVing, boating, etc), Austin has tons of art museums, you can go to the coast, I mean you name it and we got it!! haha!
