Do you like my essay on beauty? What would you suggest?
Well, to answer this question, we fist have to examine what beauty is in the first place.
What is beauty? Well, beauty is a word that humans use to describe something attractive or desirable to the senses. That said, what is human beauty then?
Well, as you may have (or not have) know, beauty has tended to change throughout human history, and always seems to stem around something that is unique, or hard to get.
Back in Shakespear’s day (about 500 years ago), beauty was not what it is now. You might imagine a skinny, blond Juliet, but I assure you that his perception of Juliet at that time was rather pale-skinned, and plump, as that was what was considered “beautiful†at that age in time... an image that is rather repulsive in modern day. The reason for this image of beauty was because food symbolize wealth, and wealth symbolized power, which thus symbolized beauty, but I suppose you get the point.
Beauty today, is about the exact opposite as what it was back then , morphing from rolls to abs, and a deathly-looking pale skin tone to a tan... as these features usually take time to develop, and therefor are “unique.â€Â
If we even look at the seventies, the hour glass body shape was favored, with a wide hip section, large b*****s, and a firm buttock. In tokay’s time, beauty has “widened†it’s image. And I’m sure even newer generations will favor the Miley Cyrus type of look.
So if we look at beauty on a detailed scale, what is desirable in modern day is what the fashion industry has “programed†our minds to think as to what is beauty.
So, in conclusion, what I can say is this, “what beauty is, is the current fashion industries concept of beauty,†which I think will be changing soon, as health is more of a factor then cancerous-prone tanned skin, and fragile bones. Who know, in 100 years or so, beauty today could even be considered repulsive.
After all, these two saying to hold some truth:
"beauty is in the eye of the beholder," and that "beauty is only skin-deep..."
