Question:

Do you like parents giving kids proper names but spelt differently?

It's going to cause problems in the future for them, plus kids won't be able to get keyrings, pens etc with their spelling on as well.

I have a relative who has called their son Jakxxun (pronounced Jackson). It looks stupid

  1. I think its silly, People should spell the names the right way.

  2. I cant believe some of the names people want to stick on a beautiful new baby.

I always tell people if you have to put in parentheses', how to say the name, then it will give the child embarassment and headaches their whole life.

I had a "different " name growing up and now its used more often.  I never got the magnets, pencil, christmas ornaments etc. with my name on them. --- Cry me a river LOL

  3. If they want to have unique names than they should pick a different name for their children.  I don't really care for the normal names with different spellings.  It's confusing and no one really knows how to spell it correctly and sometimes can't pronounce it eigher.  I love unique names with normal spelling.

  4. Trust me your name is what carries you through life and company's like easy names that can be pronounced.

  5. I hate it! i think it is ridiculous.

  6. They look as though the parent is uneducated. My daughter's name is Mackenzie, and there are many different ways of spelling it. But we went with the most common and traditional way. My other daughter is named Paige, so there are not too many other ways to spell it.

  7. Yea it does but sometimes it doesn't cause a problem

I have a csin who had a baby and she was supposed to spell it Anya but pronouced Uh-Ni-Uh

but she spelt it Anyiah which is very pretty and cool

  8. i hate it

  9. Jakxxun? Wow...there's so much wrong with that, I don't know where to begin.

If you spell Madeleine "Madeline", that's okay, it's a legit spelling, but Madiylynn is effing ridiculous.

  10. i think it's cute that the proper name is spelled in a different way. For example Mhyeca is a cute variation of Maica, Mica, Micah etc. In such ways it shows the personal touch of the parents in their children's names.

  11. Jakxxun, I don't even know what to say to that, except oh my goodness that horrible!  Sometimes different spellings go with different cultures, like a friend of mine who is teresa, which is italian (also spanish).  But for the most part you see theresa, which is considered common.  Now days your saying some crazy things, that doesn't make sense, like Jakxxun, oye.  i wouldn't be worried about some kids not being able to get keyrings or pens, that really doesn't matter.  I never was able to have that because I have a french name that isen't very common.  But i guess it's up to the parents.

  12. It all depends on the spelling alternation.  Simple things, like Ann and Anne are okay, but when they really go botching names, such as Emily to Emmaleigh, ugh, can't stand it!!!!!  I've seen an idiot take Elizabeth and spell it Allysibythe!

    Jakxxun.........Omg, please shoot that mother!!

My daughter is a Kristan, and I've seen it spelled soooooooo many ways.  I named her after my two best friends, Krystan and Kristin, so I just combined the spelling and it LOOKS normal.  Those idiots that spell their kids' names Chrystynn and Khrissten need to be shot.

Believe it or not, people with normal names get it spelled wrong, too.  My fiance is a James and when he received his college acceptance letter, it says Jaymes!  So I guess it goes both ways...........Because the world is filled with retards!

I'm glad my name is Zalika....I've never met another so usually people just ask me how to spell it if they don't know, and once I spell it out, that's it.  I don't need to say "Hi my name is Jessika" and get "Jessica" back, or have to say "You spelled my name wrong!" or "I said that's Jessika with a K!"  Ugh, I can't imagine...........

I've never cared much about keyrings, either.  But that's just me.  I like rare names.

  13. I know what you mean, i knew this girl and she wanted a pack of pencils with her name on it but her name wasn't their her mum replied its because your special.

  14. No, I do not like it. As for having your own name on key rings, pens, etc, there are many websites with the option of personalization. I have seen a boys name Jersey spelled Jerzee. Eeeekk.

  15. I'm all for "proper" names.... I actually love to spell Jackson like Jaxon, but I wouldnt ever spell it like that! I know the correct way is Jackson, so we've spelt it like that on our shortlist. I dont want my child to become subject to ridicule..

  16. I agree with you. I think a lot of people also view the parents as ignorant for spelling the names incorrectly. Also, the keyring & pen issue is a problem.

  17. That does seem pretty odd. I think Jackson is a cute name, and actually prefer the spelling 'Jaxon'... but its not nearly as obnoxious as the way your relative spelled it. lol.

  18. I like changing a C to a K, or a Y to an I, just little differences, not crazy off the wall ones.

  19. for the most part i dont like it. sometimes its okay to have a name spelled differently.  for example: my name is Kelly.  and I have a friend named Kelli.  I agree with you on Jakxxun. that is ridicilous!

  20. No, I don't like them personally.  "Jakxxun" will always have trouble with ppl remember how to spell his name for example.  I'm Sarah, and I still have to tell ppl that it's with an H (even though this is the most popular spelling)  I can't imagine how hard it is for ppl with these types of names!!

Besides difficulty in spelling, I think the reason I dislike it most is b/c the "unusual" spelling is just kinda lazy and lacks thoughtfulness.

  21. It's stupid. It makes them feel like they're giving their kid a distinctive and clever name, when they almost always pick the most overused names out there. Alyson, Alison and Allyson still sound exactly the same as Allison.

  22. I hate it. It looks like the parents are illiterate. Sorry to say but Jakxxun is one of the worse that I've seen!*

  23. I agree Jakxxum--looks ridiculous!  I was reading in a babyname boodk that was talking about the different spellings..... They used Kylie as an example.  If you have four kids in the class one named Kylie one named Kylee one named Kyleigh and one named Kieley-- Their name is still KYLIE.  Regardless of how you spell it it's still the same name.  Poor Jakxxum is going to go through life spelling and pronouncing the name Jackson, poor kid,  Before people do something like that to a child, I wish they would think about the problems it'll cause for them.

  24. I HATE it when it's that extreme like Jakxxun. It's embarrassing to even think about it and you will have a hard time fitting in and getting personalized things.

However, I don't mind some of them. My name is Claire, but there are different spellings and varieties. Clara, Clarisse, Clair, Clare, and then Claire. While Claire, Clair, and Clara are fairly popular names, I still have an extremely hard time finding things personalized with my name. One once or twice have I found 'Claire' as a Key chain or as stickers. My brother's name is Connor and it's the same thing, with even fewer chances of finding his name personalized. Conor, Coner, Conner, Connor...

So, to officially answer your question, I don't mind the VARIATIONS of some proper names (Claire, Connor), but I hate it when parents want to be 'different' and spell names in such a drastic way like Jakxxun,

  25. think some people go too far

  26. I agree,That is absolutely stupid. Spell the names properly.

  27. Wow. That's horrible. I'm not going to be able to get a keyring with my name on it. My name is Cassandra, and I have a pretty hard time finding anything with my name as well, but it doesn't bother me. There are much more important things in life than pens with my name on them.

I don't mind varying from the traditional spellings, so long as it still can be pronounced and understood. Some of the most common names have different spellings. Katelyn/Caitlyn/Kaitlyn/Catelyn and many more, for example.
