It is a nerd game, ut you aren't a nerd if you play it. I love it too. I am smarter than most kids so I find it fun to challenge myself.

No, if you play chess and you are good at it, then you would be pretty smart. I really don't think chess isn't a nerd game. The Romans played it to practice battle strategy. Same with the knights of the Middle Ages. If you want to play chess and someone says it nerdy, ignore them. Do what you want to do.

I don't think it is a nerd game.  It requires skill, strategy, planning skills, an ability to see ahead and to anticipate your opponent's moves.  A good chess player is often good at many other things in life.  Nothing nerdy about it.

Chess is very misunderstood. It does not require much more feats of intellect than many other games that require thinking. Chess , like any game requires that a person just knows the good rules of thumb, and game basics. You can be good at it with some practice and a little knowledge of game basics- just like any other game. ( even the smartest person would get their butt handed to them at poker without having some experience at it and a solid knowledge of what to do and not do).

Due to this very misunderstanding many people are too intimidated to play chess. When a newby to chess plays someone trying to teach them the game, they ultimately loose. But unlike other games where a new person trys to learn and accepts that they lost due to inexperience, they beleive they have lost at chess because it is too complicated, not that they just could learn a little more and be just as good. The new person to chess beleives they lacked the intelligence, not just the practice and help at learning the game. But with chess, the mystic that it is the ultimate measure of intelect, usually lets a newby walk away from it feeling like it could never be within their grasp.

As far as your question and nerds: yes- many nerds play chess. They do it because a nerd is very inteligent but has no social skills. They are unafraid of anything that proves they are smart. It is their strong point and they dont mind proving it to others, it's what they have and wish to hold it up against those who have social skills, athletic ability, money, good looks etc..

Regardless, if you like the game, by all means play it. Be aware that the majority of non chess players think it is a game that is too complicated for an average person and are intimidated by it because they think you have to be a genius to be good at it. If you find you gain skills at chess, dont throw it into the faces of others, they will resent it.

One highly respectable thing for the nerds is at least they can do things without weighing out what other people think of them for doing it. They have zero social standing and it doesnt matter to them what clothes they wear, music they listen to, books they read, people they hang with, or board games they enjoy to play. They do, and dont do things without regard as to what other people think of them for it, and wouldnt even know the difference if they tried.

chess is not a nerdy game most people who call it nerdy most likely have no idea how to play it. Also chess is one of the oldest board games in history the romans played it so you can play as much as you want because people who know the truth about think your cool and that is most people

well...ok.here's the thing. It's ok to play chess. if it's something you like to do, why stop bcuz someone thinks it's nerdy? Who cares what ppl think? Play it.If someone doesn't like it and thinks ur a nerd,just tell them u like it and ur gonna play anyways.(if u want  can even throw in a little something about what they do just to embaress them)
