Question:

Do you like taking the Metrolink in L.A.?

I'm going to take Metrolink roundtrip daily from Santa Clarita to Downtown. I'll leave in the 7:00 AM hour and return in the evening between 6-8 PM.

Whatever line you take...how do you like it? Is it crowded? Is it quiet enough to read or work? Does it run on time? What are the other benefits you see or complaints you have?

I used to take the Metro Red Line from Hollywood - it was fast, but full of "questionable characters."

  1. I have lived in Santa Clarita in the past and found that Metrolink was a great way to commute into downtown LA. Additionally, the Santa Clarita Transit commuter bus routes #799 & 794 express, were really a good alternative and sometimes even better due to the better frequency and lower prices and direct service to the financial district. Both Metrolink and Santa Clarita Transit were trouble free most of the time. Good Luck!

  2. I don't take it, but I have heard very good things about it.  The trains do run on time and it will be faster than driving during rush hour.

  3. metrolink *usually runs on time (especially on the Antelope

valley run but they had some delays (mostly due to weather

or the train hitting something on the tracks (mostly like

a rock ) damage the engine or something like that)

a rarity but it has happen

but in most case the train will be on time

the good thing about  metrolink ticket is that your ticket

becomes a like  bus pass for connecting buses and rail

(which means you could take metrolink to Los Angeles

then the Red Line to hollywood) or the Blue line to long beach

(re for "Questionable people its mostly just people going to work and hollywood (and tourists) during the day

on the Red Line (if you dont feel safe you can sit by the first car (where metro operator is (or by one of their call

    box)

  4. I think you'll be taking the train and there won't be as many stops as the subway...I've never ridden the train, but for the hours you suggest, it seems that it can be pretty crowded...Just remember that there are only 2 trains leaving Union station - 1 in 7 pm hour and one in the 9 pm hour...I wish that there was a good connection between Burbank and the North Hollywood or Universal subway stops.

Have an alternate plan if you get stranded or miss a train...I don't think that you'll encounter the 'characters' that infest the Red Line because of the costs.

    All the best.
