I have Vista pre-installed on the new computer I just bought. So far I don't really like it but I'm still learning the ups and downs. I'm putting this out to vote because quite frankly I don't know which is the best answer.

  1. the only people who do NOT like it, have never used it, its great make sure you get at least premium though

  2. I hate the Vista OS. I use a Mac, but if I were to use a PC I would choose XP over Vista  any day.  With my experience in Vista, the security is horrible. It freaks out at everything and anything...also seemed slower. I tried installing new hardware on the Vista, and it didn't run nearly as well as it did on XP.

I could go on...overall, no one really needs Vista. It's un-necessary.

  3. After having xp pro for so many years i was afraid to get vista until i bit the bullet and went ahead anyway.

I have nothing but admiration for vista and havent had one single bug,, flaw or discrepancy at all. Yeah,,  mostly its cosmetic changes but very nicely done all the same.

Windows Aero is great,,transparent screens,,crakin windows sidebar with lots of gadgets to add and delete at your own pace.

Folders all look different,,,as i say,  mostly cosmetic.. but hey,  after a few weeks, you will wonder why you didnt upgrade sooner.

After a few weeks,,if your not happy or cant really see any difference,, then go back to a pc with xp on it and the penny will drop straight away,,xp is old and antiquated by todays standards.

Windows 7 is roumered to be coming out in early 2010 ( yeah right,,,2012 if we all know microsofts timimg) and it will be running on the core of vista. You will need a new pc monitor cos its going to be mostly touchcreen based....the fact that it will be only slight changes to the vista core tells you straight away what a complex and future proofed platform vista is.

Go ahead and spend the cash,, you wont regret it,,,,dont whatever youdo get vista basic though...home premium for home use and vista ultimate if your into advanced networking and top end professional applications.

    Good luck

  4. Vista is OK on a powerful machine which compatibe hardware and fully up to date programs.

When I installed Vista, I did not notice a performance drop until I tried playing a game and noticed that my frame rates dropped dramatically.

Vista also doesn't trust you. You have to confirm everything you want to do, and if you turn this feature off you constantly get pop-ups about the fact.

So in conclusion, Vista is Ok, but I see no reason to upgrade if you are using XP now.

  5. i really do like vista - it is improvement from xp although not much

it should be free upgrade to xp

here is why - visually it is much better on the eye and underlying engine is just much better than xp - it is rock solid at least on my computer, does defragmentation on the fly and it runs so smooth on my computer - that is windows too so memory management is bad and you need to run ccleaner regularly - gets lots of junk

i see here and read that there are problems with vista - i personally experienced no problems with it

main mistake ppl make is - you use operating system only as much as you know it

my all time favorite was dos - like first love - you never forget it

but it is life - you just move on - same with computers

  6. I have been using Vista for a while and I like it for the most part. Best feature I liked is the integrated search functionality and built-in diagnosing tools. Annoying part of VISTA is too many times it asks your permission to do even a simple file operations and graphics tend to consume lot of battery power (when you are on battery)

With SP1 and more supported applications/drivers, I am reasonably happy user of VISTA.

(I love my Mac more though ;-))

  7. Personally I hate the program, and I have used the Home Premium version.

It seems that I am not alone, because in the last two weeks I have personally, changed operating systems in about twenty-five computers for customers, back to XP home from the Vista XP Home Premium version.

Running XP Home on the same computer as Vista was installed on, XP runs about four times faster, doesn't give you the annoying "are you sure" messages and ask for passwords constantly.

If Microsoft can't do better than Vista, then they are going downhill fast.

Since Vista was released support and popularity for Linux based systems has increased ten fold and the support base has also increased drastically. Ubuntu has become very popular, not to mention other versions of Linux.

Microsoft has tried to force people to use Vista and remove all previous versions of Windows by insisting that new systems no longer have XP installed. They have a great deal to do with new motherboards not having drivers for XP and older versions of Windows also. As Microsoft has done in the past, they continue with their strong arm tactics, which has many people shying away from their products and moving to the less popular Linux based operating systems. Some major computer manufacture companies are now making Ubuntu available on new systems, something that was unheard of in the past, except by special order.

Expect to see Linux based systems increase more and more in the near future, as the operating system becomes more user friendly, moving away from programming specalists and going more to the general public.

  8. Yes I do like Vista, its the first windows version that is actually comparable to Mac OS X.

proper pre emptive multi tasking and time sharing something that sucks on xp, protective memory, buffer overflow protection, and user account control along with multi processing and stuff make Vista a modern OS at last. A good looking GUI, better memory management, defragmenting the disk behind my back plus Vista is also a lot more modular again contributing to stability.

DirectX10's graphics r great and with UAC enabled u should never get another virus either.

Now with all these features Vista should be very stable, as stable as unix like OS's but the major problem with Vista is badly written drivers that cause most of the crashes.

All Microsoft need to do now is clean out the API layer and make it fully modular.
