I can't stand the smart car. Its so tiny and not attractive in the least bit, and it also looks really unsafe. What do you think?

  1. I agree, it's ugly, overpriced, and way too small.

With about the same money, I could get a new Honda Fit with more room and about the same gas mileage.

  2. I hate it.

    It is actually very safe.

But Smart is made by Mercedes. Unreliable, expensive to maintain, premium gas, not great gas mileage.

The Smart has a 3 cylinder 70HP engine. It should be much better gas mileage than the bigger, more powerful, faster Civic and Yaris, but it only gets 1-3mpg better.

The Smart Fortwo is a 2 seater car with no trunk.

All you can use it for is to drive to a friends house and back.

You cannot go shopping unless yoou use the passenger seat as a trunk.

  3. I like the Smart car.  They are very safe, one of the safest cars on the market.  They get gas mileage similar to a Prius, but they cost many thousands of dollars less to buy.  Where I  live there is an additional $2000 government rebate if you buy one because it is an environmentally friendly car.  It is a great car in traffic, and is fine on the highway.  It's a cool car and a great conversation started practically everywhere you go in one.  They have more "personality" than most other cars, with the possible exception of the mini Cooper (which is much more expensive with not great gas mileage and is not that comfortable to ride).  Smart cars are neat to drive, have very comfortable seats, and are good for road trips.  They have the basic amenities you need - AC, intermittent wipers, power windows, keyless entry.  Unlike most other cars they require servicing only once a year or every 10,000 miles or 15,000 kilometers, which is a huge savings in itself.  When you buy one, you automatically have roadside assistance, so if you get a flat tire, or lock your keys in the car you just call the roadside assistance number.  There are many advantages to a Smart car, and I like them a lot.

  4. They actually survive surprisingly well in accidents - one was sideswiped/t-boned near me a few months back and they escaped injury. Agreed they are not attractive though.

  5. They are ugly and expensive (for what you are getting). I would expect better from BMW. I think a lot of the money you might save by getting a car with mileage that high are negated by the fact that you have to use premium gas. I think the best bet would to buy a mid-sized or compact car and drive it smart (search for hypermiling), not get a smart car.
