Here's the dress (It was my mom's in the 80's):

And here are the shoes (Also my mom's):

My mom refuses to buy me a new outfit, so I'm left with her hand-me-downs.

What do you think ??

  1. sorry but that is the most horrible outfit i have ever seen

    the shoes??

u could try buying a cute but cheap dress online maybe???

or at least get ur friend to lend u one.????

  2. i guess you could make it work if your an original kinda person and dont mind standing out a bit but if you get allownce or something i would save up and get a dress that could be used again and again xx

  3. jeez i feel bad for you...

  4. Cut off the sleeves of the dress and do some altering around the chest area to 'modernize' it a little. I'll get some simple black heels to go with the dress. I think it's real awesome that your mom still has her old clothes with her. My mom gave them away already. XD

  5. ew.

    COMPLETELY yuck.

  6. Does the dress fit?..

  7. I hate hate hate the shoes..The dress is good if youre going for an 80's look.

I really hope you arent wearing that, you'd be better off wearing some cute boots and a jacket..something simple.

  8. It's a little/quite old fashioned in my opinion. But sometimes that could look good. I suggest try it on. If you really don't like it ask her if you could buy with your own money your own.

  9. My mom was kind of the same way...if you want to email me I have a ton of dresses I would give you one. Im like a size 1. Just putting that out there not a huge fan of your moms dress.

  10. The color is nice but the sleeves and the design are yucky. the shoes could be but the dress is to heavy with cloth. Get one that is more breezy and clean. If your mom really wants you to wear it ask someone to redo it.

  11. well idk wat to tell ya tht dress is really ugly!  i think u should cut off the sleeves or ur old enough u should get a job and buy urself a cheap dress or borrow a dress from somebody else like an older cousin?!

  12. i love the color of the dress, maybe cut the sleeves a bit.

    the shoes are okay.

  13. Seriously?? First of all, burn that dress and those shoes. Secondly, get yourself down to Primark and get a cheap dress for like £12!

  14. Wow......I would not go if I looked like that...and those shoes! EWWWWWWWWWW! Go shopping wit a friend!

  15. god.....

    go to a thrift store.

  16. I would definitely cut those sleeves off and I would probably cut the bottom off too. I'm guessing your mom might not let you do that to her dress. I always got my homecoming dresses for $40 at Charlotte Russe and I got a junior prom dress with a tag still attached for $12 at a second hand store. If your mom won't even pay $12-40 that really really sucks. I would tell her either I cut your dress or I get a new one! If she said no then I would just ask my dad! I wore a lot of hand me downs growing up but I would NOT wear a big 80s dress because my mom said I couldn't have a dress. I would even maybe ask one of my friends to borrow a dress. I think almost any dress would be better. Maybe ask your best friends if you can borrow any cute, nice looking dress from them for homecoming?

  17. well... it's from the 80s. It's not that pretty. Sorry.

If your mom's not buying you a dress because it's too expensive, then try:

    http://www.gojane.com/gojane-sale-dresse...

there are dresses on sale for $10-11.

and there are cute dress shoes for $10-11 too:

  18. the colours lovely but could do with a bit of modernising... maybe to the sleeves and length. the neck is lovely. not keen on the shoes. you should never go for lighter coloured shoes. you'd be better with black. but its really down to personal preference, you want to feel pretty and confident for your big night! maybe you can come to a compromise with your mom, if you have this dress will she have some alterations for you? or buy new shoes? or maybe you can find someone you can borrow shoes from? She cant expect you to wear an 80s style dress and shoes for homecoming! next she'll be giving you her 80s wedding dress to get married in! I understand money is probably an issue, but you need to come to a compromise so you can enjoy your special night.
