  1. i hate stupid neighbors who talk to me all of the time. it sure would be nice to have a life that isn't observed constantly. we have these old people down the street that always ask if we want to go swimming in their pool, and i'm like "please stop talking to me". not really, but i think that a lot. we also had some neighbors that would call and want to talk to my mom. i'd be like "she's busy" and they'd be like "what is she doing" and i'd be like "it's none of your freaking business". once again, i didn't say the last part, but i thought it strongly.

  2. I don't really want to get chummy, but I want to sort of know them since it's a good idea to know who belongs someplace and who doesn't.  Now, I'm considering moving to a house where I will be close to one of my best friends, but that's entirely different.

  3. Yes I do like to get chummy with at least some of my neighbors.  It's nice to have friendly neighbors and can help in emergency situations.

People who don't like to be friendly with their neighbors suffer in the long run.

And gallion stallion, having older neighbors who asks you if you want to swim in their pool would make most people happy.  The more annoying neighbor is someone with a bunch of rude kids who figure they have a right to swim in the neighbor's pool.   And lots of people ask what someone is doing maybe they'll call back later or the next day depending on whats going on.

I may not give you sneering looks if you told me to mind my own business, but I would ignore you which might not be a good thing if you ever needed my help.

  4. I like to be friends with my neighbors.  If I have to see people daily, I would much prefer to see their smiling faces and hear their genuine 'Hi, how are you doing?' then not.  I don't like to 'have my life observed' as mentioned above, but that is extreme.

I have great neighbors, but one.  The woman beside me does not talk to me besides twice when she was complaining that my music was too loud in the middle of the day.  These types of people totally suck, and I would much rather not have them around at all.

That being said, yes, I do like to be chummy with neighbors.  They are the people who can help you out in a pinch, watch the kids for an hour, give you a lift, etc.  Good neighbors can turn into good friends.  I have a few friends that are old neighbors.  I wish I had a neighbor with a pool that wanted me to come swimming!  I'll bring the beer.
