My brain itches this morning

instead of my scalp,

restless, whining for attention.

Demands of “feed me”

I’m reading as fast as I can.

Words; images, dark and light

wriggle over neurons,

cross synapses

soothe the itch.

  1. d**k, Jane and Spot had nothing to hold my interest in first grade.  I was reading Longfellow, Stevenson, and yes a bit of Poe at 6.  Now I buy most of my books on audio cd's, partly from vision impairment that has been mostly corrected, but also from plain laziness.  I'd rather someone read it to me.

  2. Yes, I do. Whenever I had the free time, I would read and read and read. Non - stop. Sometimes I'm so engrossed that I forgot to eat my lunch. And the weird thing is I don't feel hungry at all.

  3. I certainly do, especially something as entertaining as this.

Do you remember as a child once you learned to read reading everything?  Cereal packets in the morning, street signs on the way to school etc.  I still do it....if I can't find anything to read I die a little.

  4. I used to understand the passion to read. Lately, I need to take long walks on the beach.

  5. Believe you and I fell off the same wagon train...taught myself at 3...and LOL...'See Spot'...drove me bonkers!

  6. Head N Shoulders for the brain?   Bottle it and make a million itches go away.  Wait, already stocked...good poems!  Here's looking at your neurons!

  7. I also learned to read at an early age. Now my day starts with an hour long bath (some days I have to get up REALLY early), during which I read whatever book I'm reading at the morning. My day starts with words and ends with words. Yes, I love to read. Great poem.
