Do you lose or gain from giving?

We think much before giving something on charity whereas we are quick to receive the gains with open heart. Do we become poor by giving or gaining?

Greedy is also one of the nature of human beings. It is true once we know that we are getting easily with out working hard, we feel very happy and go get that. like wise if we have to work hard and gain it - then not all will do that.

There are some people who dont think much before giving. Those are the people who value certain things in their life. There are some, who we call rich, they (some) think twice and trice before giving even though they have enough with them, those are stingy people and never learn in life. Nobody become poor by giving, at least not in happiness and peace. We no need to give all we have, We can at least give some part of what we have. By this the both giver and receiver will be happy.

U neither loose nor gain from giving. U remain what u r, what constitutes u, etc, etc.

Its ur responsibility to do some charity whereas on receiving end too u should be happy to receive.

We lose a physical item by giving but in return receive a non-physical item AKA respect andfeelings of admiration.

it is a tricky question friend.

the feeling one gets through charity or any kind of help that he extends to the society is absolute bliss.

remember Shakespeare "mercy is twice blessed".

but at the same time when you are kindness is exploited you feel your act was an act of stupidity ( or at least that is what the others will say), so i would say that one should learn to say "NO".

helping the right people will sure help you both in materialistic possession and mental satisfaction

Actually, we became poor on getting.

Remember what swami vivekananda said "whatever you give, it is stored in the endless universe. after some time, it will rebound on you twice the level you gave!"

so, give a lot and take a lot. if you take a lot, you need to give a lot.

Since you're asking in the Philosophy section I'll take it that you mean in matters of the heart and overall personal well-being.  

Giving makes you a more rounded person with perspective.  I won't say "better", I'll say an improved more appreciative person.  

Speaking from personal experience, I know that when I went on missions and volunteered at shelters you get a sense of gratitude for the things you do have - even if it's not much at all.  I've been to some horrible countries too and helping these people that are so obviously in destitute conditions really opens your eyes (and heart) to something more than selfish monetary gain.

I'm conflicted now since I no longer have a direct impact like I used to and am a young professional making a decent wage.  I see how making money and saving it up, watching it grow, buying nice things has great appeal.  But I can't help but feel self-absorbed, selfish and wastefull on the flip side of the coin.  I remember how it was to make someone elses lives better, and not just by giving money, by spending time too.  Elderly people in nursing homes are a prime example.  These people deserve more than dying alone in a nursing home, you'll be amazed at what insight you can gain from some of these people.  Some are mean too, but I think that's funny!

Of course we gain material and monetary things by recieving but Ironically we become poorer by with financial gain in ways of the heart and soul.  

This isn't true for everyone, but I can tell that it is more likely than not!  Good question!

We definitely gain from giving. It is not about recognition for many give anonymously, but there is a personal satisfaction that makes the soul smile when you give from the heart, I think.
