Do you lose your bakugan in battle?

In bakugan if you lose the battle or the game do you lose the bakugans and cards you battled with because me and my friends just give our cards back to each other but in a real tournement do you lose your bakugan?

Yeah thats basically it, accept you lose you're two best cards, its kinda like Yu-g*y-O

i think in a tournment you lose the 3 bakugan you used not positive but i think thats it
