Question:

Do you love Earth enough to do something?

If we all love earth and the life on it why are we ruining it. I'm 16 and I'm trying to get a better recycling group going at my school, people are throwing away garbage cans full of paper and plastic bottles a day in our 700 person school. Think about that 200 or so days of school each year, that is tons of pounds of recyclables that are being thrown in to landfills. I've gotten permission from my principle to post flyers and put a message in our school bulletin. I need exciting ideas to get all the kids I can to help me. I want to get all the schools possible to recycle everything possible, all the schools in my county, then all in my state, and eventually all in the U.S. I'm tired of waiting for an "adult" to get it going. If you have any way to help, even if it is just posting an answer or passing on the idea to someone else please help. I'm going to keep posting these ideas until I get results. And if no one helps I'll do it myself.

  2. Thank you SOOOOO much for paying attention to what we are doing to our planet. I know of this one small school where they recycle, reuse, and compost most of their trash and waste.and i do the same.  And even though your in a BIG school trying to get people to realize this thats great.

    Keep Up the good Work

  3. I'm glad someone in high school actually cares about the environment.  Yeah I'm in high school too and most people don't give a c**p about the environment and it makes me sick!

  4. Go nuts!

Get back to us when you're 25 and let us know if you still have the fire and zeal. Maybe you can call us on your disposable cell phone from your new SUV when you get that big corporate job out of college, and all the egalitarianism evaporates almost instantly.

It's a noble idea and effort, but there have been billions and billions of teenagers, (including every one alive that's about 4 years older than you who thought that they could change the world alone.

  5. Grow up. China is a bigger problem then the US and is still growing. Al Gore cut his energy use of 16,000 watts/month by 11% and is praised for it. He is your savior and still is allowed to use 10 times the power of the state's average household.

This is all about getting the wealth of the richer countries into the hands of the poorer ones without them having to change their forms of government and belief systems.

  6. Thats great! good luck with it!

i recycle and make my parents do it too.

  7. I recycle all the time. I even have to pay extra to do it.

    Why doesn't everybody?

Problem is, I've seen news articles stating those we3 pay to handle the recycling are just dumping it into land fills.

THERE is where the laws should be directed.

  8. i understand completly-keep going, even if it only get 2 people recycle, it was worth it. more and more people will catch on. my family and i always recycle. good-luck!!

  9. first and foremost stop the product that are

    "use and throw "

type- like bollpens, water bottless, and so on..

this will reduce tthe burden on the garbage dump yard it self. you should take water from home in a rigid plastic bottle. food for lunch in a tiffin box etc....

  10. good of you to try and save the world mate. if only everybody would!!

  11. There was a time when I believed we should pass laws that would fine any "uncaring" people who didn't recycle.

    Luckily, I grew up.

Now, I'd shoot somebody I caught investigating my garbage.

  12. I feel your pain!  I am an Enviro Eng and I really want to make a difference.  I guess if we keep at it at least a few ppl will get the message.  Don't be discouraged.  Continue to be a good example.  Try hosting an Earth Day event.  I 'll bet there are some local business and community groups that would love to volunteer.  If you have an A&P nearby, they have these really awesome 99 cent reusable shopping bags.  Try to give them away as gifts.  If you have an opportunity to share info, here's a really cool eye-opening short movie  www.storyofstuff.com.

What state are u from?  I  can share my files and posters with you if you need help.
