Back home, I was always the inviter. I think its because my friends didnt know how to cook and could just make simple things. And I love cooking, so whenever they were invited I'd make this 3 course extravangaza!

However now that I live on my own, I love it when somebody phone and says "You're invited for supper" Its like magical words to me, saves me from cooking for myself. . .

How about you?

  1. In my previous life (before crime explosion drove me from SA) we used to be quite the entertainers, in SA and in Germany.  Nowadays I would be glad to be invited out for a meal. Firstly because I do not have to cook, and secondly because I can decide when to leave the party.  Sometimes people just cannot get the hint that the party is over and time to go home PLEASE.

And also with my husband being a diabetic, I just do not feel like cooking.  All these rules that enough carbohydrates must be there, no fruit etc. I am happy to leave that to someone else to worry about!!

  2. Back home I was also the inviter. I loved having people over all the time. Here, however, I am not really that keen ... all my American girlfriends are always on diet and I never know what to cook, the guys are easier but even they talk about food as if it is some kind of science project. Everyone is calorie obsessed. It is easier to be invited and let them cook from their weight watchers books or whatever diet they are on ...

  3. No, I prefer having people over to my house for dinner/braai than going out to them.

It also depends on two very important pieces of information:

    1) Who is it that has invited me, and

    2) What is he/she preparing for dinner

I have some friends who are horrendous cooks and who enjoy testing their "experiments" out on me, just stick to lamb and we won't have a problem.

  4. I dont mind as long as it is not with my wife's boring colleagues or varsity buddies

  5. We were also the inviters, but these days if you throw a rock on the roof it looks like a primary school closing for the holidays. There are just to many kids. We are 14 friends who used to regularly "kuier" every weekend. Between the 14 of us there are now 22 kids between 0 and 10 ! It rarely happens that we all together at one "party". Those of us with more than two kids never get invited... LOL

  6. It depends on what they are having. I am picky and don't want to be in the awkward situation of not eating what they make because I don't like it. Otherwise I do enjoy it.

  7. of course...it saves from my penny..w/ high price increase of  food commodities ..i wouldn't says no..for invitation. amd beside it makes us relax...when we atttend the party.

  8. I love inviting people for supper or lunch or a braai and love being invited too. I bought a 12 seater table especially for entertaining. I love cooking as well, I only hate the cleaning up afterwards, but that also get done in an hour or two.

  9. If my mom invites us, YES. If my father invites us, no. If friends or colleagues invite us, I'm in a bind as I'm very picky with what I eat. Some of my friends I can be open enough with to tell them what we don't eat. I usually try and think of excuses for the other people. I'd rather have people come and eat at my place and I usually ask them beforehand what they eat and don't eat. Or I make so many different things that they can eat whatever they want.

  10. I love the idea of not making the meal myself  -  even a toasted sandwich taste better if you don't have to make it, but i am wary if people invite me that don't really know me, because i am very particular about what i eat or don't eat

  11. Anything to avoid contact with a pot!!! Yessss....I am so there!!!

I also like the idea of an intimate couples night, where we sit on the carpet, play some nice music in the background, order pizza with wine and discuss politics, relationships etc... those are fabulous!!! And best of all no one has to even touch a pot.
