  1. Mmmm no actually. I LIKE trains. I LOVE my fiancee.

Fav classic diesel loco prolly would be the ALCO PA-1, followed by the DL-109 and FL-9 - love those extra long units.

Fav steam would be the 4-6-2 Pacific - a good old high stepper. Any road will do, or a New Haven I class would be wonderful. Pennsy T1 is pretty neat lookin too, as is the PRR M1a.

Electrics, oh thats easy. The Westinghouse NH EP-2, and the EP-5. No care for that GG1 U-boat-on-wheels here!

As for modern stuff... Well.. GE B39/B40's aren't bad - I've grown to like them - same with the Super 7 B23-7R's. Also the ES40/44 - looks beefier than a Dash 9. The SD70 ACe is pretty neat with that boxy nose too.

  2. Anything steam.  There is just a sound that they produce that can't be duplicated by any other type of locomotive.  The look and sound (and smell - from the coal) of a steam locomotive can take you back to a time and place when life was simpler.  It wasn't important when you got there, just that you could get there.

  3. Japan Steam Locomotives D-51 and D-52.

  4. As far as operations go, my favorite locomotive is one where everything is working properly.

But, my heart lies with steam, and the Articulated Consolidated cab forwards of the Southern Pacific.

  5. Glad to hear you like the Illinois Terminal Railroad.  I like any of their boxcab electrics.  Grew up near the PRR, so have a fondness for the GG1, L-5, B-1 and FF-2 electrics.  As far as steam, I, K-4s, S2 and T classes are my favorites.

  6. I love and live trains.

I'm in India and India is supposed to have got the 3rd biggest network of Rails in the world.

I like WAP 5 locos which run at 150 km/h or more

  7. Union Pacific Centennials (DDA40X) and the Southern Pacific Cab Forward ,and the EMD SD40T-2, and u boats

  8. I like the Hudsons for overall aesthetic balance.  The smaller mikes that were used on a number of Texas RRs as well.

They could be a standard USRA design but still distinguished as engines of the MKT were.  The FW&D had some nice engines as well.

I am also partial to our ALCO RSD-15.  Ever since I learned how to inspect and start it up, I am more fond of this 40 + year old diesel than I ever thought I would be.

  9. Haven't fount it yet... should be the last of December 2008.. that's when I retire...:).. But really I prefer GE locomotives...

  10. I've always admired the 1930's "Art Deco" styles, and the 1950's "Streamlined Era".  Today's locomotives just no longer have that 'romantic' look any more.

  11. Too many to list.  For Diesel I love the old Alco swithcers.   Also Like the old U boats And ofcoarse the Old F-7s. The F-7 is the first and only loco I ever ran at the Monticello and Sagomon Valley railway.  Road # 1189. It was an old Wabash unit.  For steam I really like the old streamliners.  N&W J class, And NYC's Empire State Express.  I also Love UP Challengers.

EISEN. That is cool that you love the old ITC.  MY dad and Grandpa used to work for them.  Grandpa was a freight agent Working out of Alton and Decatur.  Dad was a Conducter working out of Decatur. Untill they got bought by The N&W.

  12. Of course I love trains, my heart goes for most steam locomotives....SR's #'s 722, and 4501 come to mind. I also like N&W's #'s 611 and 1218, and SP's #4449. And let's not forget UP#'s 844, and #3985. Another one I know of would be L&N#152

  13. Well for myself, I like Steam, Electric's and Diesel's so for Steam I'd have to say New York Central's J 3 Hudson. For Electric's it would be a Illinois Terminal Class B Boxcab locomotive. Diesel would be a SW 1200 Switch engine.
