Question:

Do you make any purchase decisions based on oversized or bulky packaging?

Although not as prevalent as years ago, some manufactures continue to place small products in unnecessarily large boxes or containers. Do you ever not purchase a product with excessive waste packaging? Do you ever contact the product manufacturer about the excessive packaging?

  1. Packaging is advertising, plain and simple. It drives me nuts when I buy a box of cereal!!!

  2. Yes -- I refuse to buy "individual" sizes of things that don't need them. I can cut up cheese myself, thanks! I hate the amount of over-packaged items out there today, just because we are too lazy to dump a box of cereal into smaller containers or put juice into a small jug ourselves. What a WASTE!

  3. Actually I heard England is thinking about fining companies which has excessive packaging.  I am getting fustrated that some products are wrapped in plastic several times, but I have not actually consciously avoided excess packaging.  It maybe something easy for me to do to help out though, but I don't buy much.

Edit: Oh wait , I do like stuff individually wrapped.  I guess I can avoid that, and  try to buy bulk stuff.

  4. They still do as an anti theft deterrent and is really hard to get around if it is something you need, from a sim card to saddle.

  5. I would never purchase anything that is over-packaged.  Apart from disrespect for the environment, elaborate containers are an excuse to up the price of goods.  Good goods in small parcels!

  6. Yes, and yes.  Although I can't really afford to be as picky as I'd like, I will pass up excessive packaging whenever I can.

I did write to General Mills once about their packaging but I'm sure it fell on deaf ears (or the waste basket).   Anyway, I tried.

  7. i do contact the manufacturer because i believe the bigger package contributes to the cost of the item. i try to avoid excessive packaging.

  8. absolutely, in this capitalisitic society the only way to really say anything is to spend or not spen your money.

  9. no, but now i do.  thanks for brigning that up
