I'm just wondering for the future, whether I would want to commute to a job. Or even a school.

  1. It certainly is a pain.  I wouldn't do too much of it unless necessary.

I've never had to commute more than 10 minutes anywhere in my life, school or work.  I'm trying to keep it that way.

  2. I'm rather enjoying it at the moment.

But then, I live in a city. And I don't have access to  a car, so I don't have that hassle. An outing is just another excuse for a relaxing walk or a fun bike ride. Even a bus ride is interesting, since I don't use them that often.

But for most of my childhood, living in a small town with no high school, I had to take a 20-25Km bus trip to get to school in the nearby city every school day for 7 years.

And many other trips into the city in the family car for other stuff.

That same bit of road over and over and over again, not exactly the most exciting way to spend one's time.

  3. Commuting is at its worst when you're commuting to a heavily trafficked area, or at a time of day when most people are on the road.  My personal experience has been that if you can get a commuting job away from a major city or during a time of day when most others aren't commuting it really isn't all that bad.  It's the stop and go that really becomes a bother, and you end up having to add additional minutes to your commute to ensure you aren't going to be late for an incident like I just mentioned.  Commuting over and above an hour each way can really take a chunk out of your day, so also factor in the value of time when considering work or schools way outside your area.

Keep in mind that you can always move closer to work or school.  Sometimes this is the best option.  Public transportation can also cut down on your stress.
