  1. you don't "technically" have to but its much more comfortable and will get more response when snowboarding with snowboarding boots

  2. Yes, you need a snowboarding boots. They're constructed for snowboarding. The boots are actually built like a upside-down "7" not a 90 degree angle on the heels up. This is so that you can transfer energy better when you board.

  3. yeah you need the boots if you dont you have a real good chance of breaking your ankles. go on ebay and buy a pair, you can get them for pretty cheap.

  4. You know Like everyone else says, you dont nessesarally need a "snowboard specific" boot but its like playing soccer in Sandles. YOu will be a 100% safer, more comfortable and warmer in the right gear. Basically your chance of enjoying snowboarding and going back for a second time would be greatly increased with a snowboard boot.

If your worried about the cost keep in mind how much a good running shoe, or skate shoe costs, (around $60-$80) for shoes you will only use for a month or two, or even a $100 leather work boot that you probably get hurt in or freeze your feet. There are really good boots out there for $80 and up so you dont have to spend a ton of cash. Like someone else mentioned you could rent a couple times and see if you like it.

But there is no replacement for YOUR OWN BOOTs. If your going cheap out on anything dont let it be your boots, Wear a wool shirt and camo pants, and ride on your friends 20 year old board, but get yourself a decent boot and you will have a much better time.

  5. its not necessary, but it makes it that much easier and comfortable. the boots provide support and are built differently with the only purpose is to snowboard. you will for sure need snowboarding boots if you have step-in bindings (but thats a different kind of boot itself)

  6. you dont really need them but they have stuff in it so when you fall you dont twist your ankles.

  7. It's not illegal to just wear shoes in snowboard bindings but it's a pretty bad idea.  Regular boots won't protect your ankles or transfer your motion into the board like snowboard boots do.

Rent them your first time up and then if you dig the sport go buy a decent pair and continue to rent the boards for a little while.
