Do you need a Basecoat of wax on a surfboard?

i literally just spent all my money on a 6'1" fish hand shapd by claude codgen and i was wondering if i need to get base coat wax for it or if i can just use the wax i have and put extra wax on??? thanks for the help

  1. No, it's not a necessity. Some think it builds a better traction base, but I've never noticed much difference. Surf wax is fine.


  2. Just to be safe I would get a base coat wax, but i dont think it is nessecary. But if you cant i wouldnt worry about it.

  3. you dont really need it but some people say it providdes better grip. i put it on my board.
