you have to submit your fafsa forms and they will issue you a password.  you may want to contact them about two weeks after you submit your fafsa to request your pin.  your pin is very important so remember it.  maybe write it down.

Yes, you need to apply for a pin number first before you can apply for FAFSA. You CAN get started on the FAFSA application if you don't have a pin, but you would have to save it on the page where it asks for you to put in your pin number. When you submit a FAFSA application without a pin number, it's considered incomplete and that will cause a delay.
