cables on it? I have an older HDTV and it doesn't have the HDMI connectors. I want to buy a Blu-Ray online but they don't specify it they work with both types of connectors.

I'm looking at the Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray Disc Player specifically.

  1. You can use the composite but it won't be HD. If your TV is an older HD, look for the SDIF connector on the back. It is a cable that converts the HDMI output to the receiver. You need to provide more info. Blu-Ray is a format which has nothing to do with transferring it to the TV. The player will have to be HDMI if you want Hi Def. The player would have to be HDMI compatable regardless of format. I wouldn't buy a Blu-Ray player until the format contraversy is worked out between it and HD-DVD. Your connections have no bearing on the case. The formats have no meaning because the interconnecting cables do just that. Interconnect.

  2. You mean "Component". Yes, the HD video comes out the Component jacks. (At least on my BluRay player it does).

But standard DVD's will not up-convert out the component jacks, only with HDMI.  This is NOT too bad because your TV does an up-conversion already.

You might want to consider a PS3. It is cheaper, faster and has better video performance.

Cnet reviewed this player and said it had "..painfully slow load times on newer BD-Java disks like Pirates.."
