Do you need a Jam door on the Nerf N-strike Longshot

Question

I have just modded my nerf longshot by taking the air resistor out and it doesn't go as far as everyone says it should. Does the fact i left the jam door off have anything to do with it. Please answer

I wouldn't think it would have any effect by not having one, but it may have been acting as a stabilizer for the chamber and that little bit of wobble in that long of a barrel may reduce distance
