I have found statements to the extent 'not required for a discontinuous stay up to 90 days' but cannot find anything to clarify this.

  1. Thats true, if you are an US citizen you do not need a schengen visa to travel between the schengen states as long as it is fewer than 90 days, of course, if you are an EU citizen then u have unlimited access, but youll do good with ur US citizenship too as long as it if for transit, bussiness, or tourism. Good luck and enjoy EU ;)

  2. Absolutely!

  3. "US citizens in possession of a valid US passport do not need a visa for airport transit, tourist or business trips (for stays up to 90 days" says the German embassy in Washington.  And other European countries in Schengen zone have the same rules.

Embassy websites are often the best places to get visa information
