  2. well shaun actually winning in a state "golden glove" boubt goes a long way.  I had heard years back that "boxing" had stopped this practice, but that was a lie.  Boxing still has "golden glove" tourney's all the time.  Just about every state has golden glove tourney's and the best advice would be for you to fight in and win a golden glove tournament.  Any body tells you other wise they're just talking out of their butts.

The Golden Glove tourney is where it's at dude ..... google it and find out for your self. You can check out http://www.goldengloves.com/welcome/ as well.  Anyone else don't have a clue as to what they're talking about man.  Trust me. My best student is currently 3 - 1 in amatuer cage competitions and I've been at this kind of thing for the past 15 years dude.  Every thing from Judo competitions to boxing so I know what I'm talking about unlike some of my counterparts in Yahoo Answers.

There's a big difference between what I know from actual experience and some one just spouting off any thing that they think sounds right.

  3. no, you just have to have boxing shorts.

  4. No you don't, but if you want to be successful and not just a give me opponent to real boxers then Yes you do.

Some heavyweights can get away with no amateur experience because they are big the division is fairly untalented right now. But against a fighter with a good amateur background Ill bet the house on them any day over a fighter with none.

  5. Nah you can go in without any amateur experience ...however it is advised to go through te amateur ranks to polish one's skills and gain vaulable experience

  6. not really but it helps sharpen skills ie jab, defense etc.

But given that pro boxing and amateur are so different in terms of rules, and fighters mindset.

Pro boxing by definition is what a person does for a living ( if they are any good these days).

Amateur boxing is essentially a sport.
