I bought a bottle of vitamins from a company and they sent me a $10 check in my name. However I don't have a bank account, credit card, etc. Can I still cash this check?

  1. Grocery stores will cash the check (for a fee), or even if you have a friend you can go to their bank with them, sign the check over to them, they deposit it and give you the money.

  2. Yes, at a cheque cashing place...but why not open a bank account?  Anyone can get one...it's easy...just go into a bank and ask to open an account and they'll take care of everything.

  3. A $10 check for buying Vitamins?  Cool!  I've only heard of company's giving store credits, not just plain cash checks.  That's pretty awesome.

You can have the check cashed at most liquor stores, grocery stores, or at the bank it was issued from (you should see that near the top right of the check-- it should be something like Bank of America or Wachovia, etc.)

You could even have a friend with a bank account cash the check for you, but writing "pay to the order of SO-IN-SO" on the back of the check and signing it.

  4. A check cashing place may charge up to 3 times as much to cash the same check.  So opening a checking account and cashing that check and future checks as well for that matter for free at your bank is your cheapest option.
