Do you need a car if you are stationed at a coast guard base?

  1. While I was Navy and not Coast Guard, it depended on the base where you were stationed.  Only occasionally did I have need of a car and then I always had friends that did.  I found a bike pretty usefull too.


  2. if it means having a 2nd car just for that person, the answer is no.  you can get rides off base and take public transportation to go home on leave.

  3. Rather depends on what base and your life-style preference.  There are bases in urban areas, like Chicago, with plenty of public transport.  Then we have the tiny base at Tahoe, with no housing on the base and no affordable housing within 30 miles of the base and no leisure activities anywhere nearby and no public transportation.

  4. It depends on which base you are stationed at.  Some yes, some no.

  5. Only unless you feel it is necessary to drive yourself places.  Most ego-freaks will tell you no, though (and they, themselves probably own a car...)  Depending on the situations, some people just need their own car.  Good luck!
