Yes you need to spend money to save money. I think regular membership costs about $50 (check out the Costco website).

Or if you know someone who is a member they can purchase a gift card for you and then you can shop at Costco without the membership card.

On a personal note: I used to shop there and found that I didn't really save that much money. It is better to shop at your local supermarket and look for sales.
