Do you need a dress for homecoming?

i'm in 9th grade and homecoming is coming up. some girls want to get a dress but do you need to? what's the big deal?

My high school doesn't have a formal homecoming.  If yours does, I'd suggest an above the knee dress, so it doesn't look too fancy, but is still nice looking.

it depends what your style is, you don't need to wear a big poofy dress or something super glittery. It should be about how you want to look. I know girls that have gone to homecoming in a simple dress with sneakers to feel comfortable.
