About 8 months ago my husband and I financed a used car, we put it in his name, since he has the job. Well he didnt have a license then and nothing ever came about it.. Well the registration expired and when we went to renew it about 3 months ago they said we couldnt because the restrictions on his license. Well how did we get it registered in the first place? When u finance a car they register it in ur name right? So my question is, did something change in the laws? Can we now go to a dealership and finance a car and put it in his name even without him not having a license? Thanx in advance..

  1. Im pretty sure that you can finance a car without a drivers license but, you cannot drive it.

  2. "They" don't register it in the first place, you do. When you purchased the vehicle, you should have received paperwork from your dealership. Then you took that paperwork to the assessors office, then to the revenue office to get your registration and license plate. I'm assuming you did all this? I'm not understanding why the dealership allowed your husband to drive the vehicle off the lot with no license. He could not get insurace on it with no license, and no insurance=no drive according to the laws of most states. I'm as confused as you are as to how this car got licensed in the first place. However, if you now have a clear title on the car, just have your husband sell it to you for $1. Then go register it in your name. Problem solved.

Hm, that's odd to me, it's not done like that in my state. We have to do everything, assess, go to the tax collector to get a slip showing our taxes were paid the previous year, then to the revenue office to pay the sales tax and registration fee, and they give us a plate. Sorry I couldn't be of any help.
