We are planning a san diego trip next year and this is the first time my hubby has seen the ocean and wants to go fishing in the ocean...and I was just wondering do we need a fishing licence to go finishing in san diego? And are there places that will take us out in the ocean to go fishing? If so, whats the name and how much does it cost, for how long?

  1. IF I remember correctly, if you're 15 or under you don't need a fishing liscense.  Go here and check:  http://www.dfg.ca.gov

  2. Yes you need a license even if you pay to go out on a boat that takes you there and provides the equipment. These places sell one day licenses for people in your situation.

I don't remember the cost or how long I went.Be sure you're not the kind of people who get sea sick though.Perhaps buy some dramamine just in case.

  3. if you go out on a charter boat the boat you still will need a license.   Mission Bay has some nice 1/2 and day trip boats.

We used to go out after Bonita and they'd bleed them and fillet them on the boat for you....nice fish.  Good luck....

  4. Every state in the United States require a fishing license to fish in public waters.  I would suggest getting a 2 day or 1 week fishing license...  For a fast and easy way you can buy all fishing licenses online for any state at http://www.anglersresource.org/license.h...

Good Luck and I hope this helps

  5. Yup', you'll need one. Ya' can get a non-resident type (link) and they can be either for 1, 2 or 10 days. As for taking a Charter boat out, just search Yahoo and or Google for, Sport Fishing Charter Boat Service/San Deigo, CA.,. You'll be able ta' find out what their fees are, location, boat schedules, species of fish you'd be fishin' for etc., etc.. Stickypyros2 pointed somethin' out that is of concern ie., sea-sickness and what ya' might think of gettin' before headin' out on the boat. Hope this helps some ;)...

    Non-resident Fishing License:

    http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/fishing/...

(Scroll down page to Short Term Sport Fishing License)...

Note: If this is any consolation for havin' to get a license ~ charter boats (mostly all) provides ya' with their rod/reels and the other necessities for fishin' ;)...
