I have a 160gb ipod classic and bought the apple brand component video out cable. My TV is only a year old (standard tube flat screen) and has component video inputs. They work fine when I hook up my dvd player to it, but when I hook my ipod to it I get a bunch of distortion (basically its not accepting the signal). This also happened when I hooked up my 5th gen ipod video. It does work when you use the standard compostite video (red, white and yellow cables).

  1. It sounds like it is outputting a progressive signal which would require at least a EDTV. See if you can change the settings to interlaced which would fix the problem.

  2. You have a tube TV with component video in, right? Your TV is scanning at 30k minimum so you should have no trouble using your ipod progressive or interlaced at 480 lines. Try setting your ipod to output 480i or 480p. It's probably set on 1080i right now. Also, your TV might have settings for it's expected input. Set those to 480i or 480p, the same as your ipod.

If that doesn't work, try it on a friends HDTV to make sure the ipod and cable are not defective. If the ipod and cable work at your friends, have your TV looked at by a professional.

    Good luck!
