  1. No you don' need a license to DJ in Michigan.  However if you charge money you must report it to the IRS.  If you have "DJ Name " you need to get a "DBA"  doing business as.  But beware the DJ company should have insurance.  The Bride and Groom can be held liable for damages or injury to the guest and hall.  Brides please do not skimp on your DJ.  Must reputable DJ companies charge $675 to $2,000.  Any one who charges less are not insured.  I have seen budget DJ not show up at the event, send a diffrent dj (if Luckey @ All) , play music with offencive music, get drunk, have their sound equipment fail with no back up.

Brides you invest thousands of dollars in your wedding only to have your guest leave @ 10:00.  A veggie tray cost about $7.50 per person X 250 guest = $1,875 you spend $400 on a DJ cheesy DJ that messed up your wedding.  What do your guest remember the veggie tray or the bad DJ?

Dump the Veggie tray spend the money on a quality DJ your guest will say it the best wedding I ever went to.

  2. Absolutely not. I'm not sure where you got that idea from, and I really don't know where all the people who said you do got the idea from. Licenses or permits in general are set up to for 2 reasons. 1) to protect public safety (drivers license; must have a liquor license) 2) To protect a scarce resource (hunting permits; commercial fishing license)

Maybe you're talking about a business license. If that's the case, don't worry about it. I'm not sure to what degree you plan on djing, but unless you plan on hiring employees or doing this as a full time job you probably wont even be filing taxes for the $3,000 you make in a year.

  3. no

  4. I think you do because its not Houston why are you going to the party have a good time.

  5. you wouldn't need a license unless you were charging money.

  6. at my classmates party the Dj was his friend... he was an actually Dj though.. but he doesnt have a license he is only 17.. so i would say no

  7. Nope. Friend of mine is a DJ and employs 5-6 others. He's legit and had zero license req's except general biz license. You have to get a general biz license to do biz in the state of Michigan. Start by getting a EIN at IRS.gov. It takes 60 seconds and it's free. You'll need to pick a name before you apply. After that, call Lansing for more info. Bureau of Licensing I think.

  8. I doubt it.  Why would you need one?  Who would be the licensing body?
