  1. It all depends on what which scooter you get.

  2. SEE THE SEARCH BAR?  USE IT.  ASKED AND ANSWERED ABOUT A THOUSAND TIMES.

  3. you need a drivers license first in most  states. some states will let you obtain a "motorcycle only" license.  in florida for example, when operating a scoots/motorcycle the general rule is anything over 49cc you will need a motorcycle endorsment attached to your license. in florida we have to take the MSF course (about $250 and 3days) and pass the written and skill(riding) test. in order to get the endorsment certificate to take to DMV. once they  see your certificate. they will add "motorcycle also" to your license and than you'll be legal.  i would also suggest you look at virginia DMV website.

  4. if its over 50cc yea you do if its under  50cc you dont

  5. If you live in sanantonio then no but for anywhere else it depends. It also sometimes depends on what kind you get.

  6. In most states you need a license for a scooter above a certain engine capacity, and yes, it requires a specific test/training course.  Call the DOT in Virginia and ask about current regulations. If you are  allowed to ride mopeds without a license, that maybe what you want, if you are against the licensing thing. Speeds for mopeds are rather low, by comparison with cars, scooters, motorcycles, so see what regulations apply to "mopeds" and "motorized bicycles."

You can usually get a moped-only license sooner than you can get a car license or a motorcycle license.   (Most states treat a scooter as a part of the world on two wheels, and thus do not create a different class of machinery for them.)

  7. According to more than one (non-authoritative) website, no, you don't need a license; but depending on the cc's, your bike may need to be registered. Usually if the bike is rated at 50cc's you do not -- thank heaven for small favors! =)

Even if you do need to register, the fee is only 10 bucks; which it might be a good idea just in case the bike ever got stolen. Vespas are *very expensive* "designer" scooters -- do I take it that this is your first bike (since you seem a bit unsure about the laws)? if so, why would you want to sink that much money into it?  There's a lot of other bikes out there that are comparable in quality and features, etc. for considerably less money.

I suggest this because for one reason, beginning riders may acquire a few scrapes and dings as they practice driving; and the more expensive the scooter the more they'll affect the appearance of a "stylish" bike, along with the resale value.

  8. Call your local police department and they will tell you.

I know, in New Jersey my son to get one, if he drove it

    on the road, or sidewalk.
