  1. no, i have a 7mm magnum and its awesome

  2. Sniper rifle????..... Theres no such thing...... If you hand a rifle to an Army sniper then its a "snipers rifle" ------- Hand the same exact rifle to a hunter and then its a hunting rifle... Then hand the same rifle to a target shooter and then it becomes a target rifle......

YOu do not need a license here in the USA to own a regular bolt action police / hunting or target rifle..... You just have to be 18 with ID and no felony's...

  3. Most of these comments are right. A sniper rifle is a generic term for an accurate rifle put into the expert's hands. They can be anything from .17HMR up to a 7.62/.308 depending on your desired end result (how much of a mess you want to leave).

  4. Nobody else does, but you do.

When you learn what rifles are, you'll find there's no such thing as a "sniper rifle" per se, and it'll become clearer.

  5. metrolpol nailed it seeing you are in the hunting section yes you will need a hunting license to snipe that deer.

  6. no,  I hate the term sniper Rifle.  Its a rifle.  Go to the gun store pick one out, whether it be a m40a1,barret m82,Mosin Nagant,  M1 garand D.  ETC..  Fill the back ground check paper work out.  And bobs your uncle.

  7. No you don't.  As long as the barrel is 16.5 in. long, you're good in every other aspect.

EXCEPTION:  California - no clip larger than 10 rounds.  Actually, it might be down to 5 rounds now... or no removable clip at all - they keep changing their policy.

Go figure, Terminator/Governator as their lead, but strictest gun laws in the nation...

PS. If you get one, you have to promise not to shoot me.  Hey, I helped, so we're friends right?  Anyways, don't shoot me.

  8. Fortunately, most states do not regulate bolt action rifles.  Anyone not otherwise prohibited from owning a firearm may purchase any bolt action rifle in any caliber you choose.  Unfortunately, due to irrational antigun propaganda, states like California regulate the sales of .50 caliber and larger rifles.

There may be precision rifles of various calibers used by military and police for sharpshooting and sniper applications, but it is the shooter which makes a sniper and not the weapon.

  9. In general, you don't need a license to own a rifle as such; but check laws in your area.  As for the 'sniper' part, that partly depends on your definition and partly on local laws.  In some place specific types or models are prohibited; in others only certain accessories (such as the scope) are restricted.

  10. There's no way to tell, based on not knowing your location.  Check with your state or local laws to determine what the requirements are.

  11. Question:  Do you need a license to own a sniper rifle?

Answer:  No because there's no such animal.

A rifle is just a rifle until it is used by a sniper.  Then it becomes a 'sniper's rifle.'  The infamous Kennedy Rifle turned out to be a twenty-dollar mail-order military surplus job whose only claim to fame was that at the time it was considered the 'fastest bolt-action military rifle in the world.'  Not a 'sniper-rifle' by any stretch of the imagination.

Kudos to Stealth, Metropol, Fisher & John De Witt for telling it like it is.  Thanks guys!

  12. A sniper rifle is no different than a hunting rifle or target rifle in the eyes of the law or anyone else for that matter. What makes a rifle a snipers rifle is the fact that it is being used by a sniper. All that "sniper rifles" are, is highly accurate rifles which can just as easily be used for hunting or target work as thay can for "sniping"..

Do you need a license to buy one? Yes. You need a drivers license. Not a gun permit of some kind, just a drivers license like is required to buy any new gun from a dealer.

  13. As far as the Feds go a rifle is a rifle and there is no special permit required unless it's a fully automatic. Some states however have laws against rifles that have a large capacity magazine. Your going to have to check your local laws in the state you live in to find this out. Here is a link to information about it: http://www.saf.org/LawReviews/Fafarman1....
