  1. Unfortunately, yes- if you're going into the interior. A visa won't cut it any more. If you just want to go to T.J. for the day just have a valid photo I.D.

  2. If you FLY to and from Mexico or Canada , you must hae a passport.  if you travel by LAND or SEA, you do NOT need a passport yet...that law has not been implemented and has no set date.  Se site below and read top half of page carefully to see that it says you  need a photo I.D. and a proof of citizenship like a passport OR birth certificate.  There is ( obviously) a GREAT deal of misinformaton being given about this...as most people do NOT read this for themselves...or read carefully.   You can check this site from time to time as ne announcements are always posted here first.

  3. i dont know, but i know you have to have one to get back into the U.S.

  4. Yes.

    The U.S. Embassy in Mexico City advised the traveling public that as of January 31, 2008, all adult travelers will be required to present both proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate, and proof of identity, such as a driver’s license OR a U.S. Passport OR SENTRI/NEXUS/FAST card, when entering the United States through land and sea ports of entry. This requirement results from implementation of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, and applies to U.S., Canadian and Bermudian citizens.

    Currently, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers may accept oral declarations of citizenship from U.S. and Canadian citizens seeking entry into the United States through a land or sea border. However, as of January 31, 2008:

    Oral declarations of citizenship alone will no longer be acceptable;

    U.S. and Canadian citizens ages 19 and older will need to present a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, along with proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate or naturalization certificate;

    Children ages 18 and under will only be required to present proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate;

    Passports and trusted traveler program cards - NEXUS, SENTRI and FAST - will continue to be accepted for cross-border travel.

    Aside from U.S., Canadian, and Bermudian citizens, document requirements for other travelers will not be affected by this change. There is NO change in entry requirements for Mexican nationals. DHS will be issuing a notice in the Federal Register announcing this change.

  5. I live in Canada and you definitely need a passport to get in. Mexico as well. You need a passport to get into pretty much every developed country in the world.
