  1. You don't need the passport to leave the US, you only need it to get back in!

  2. We now need a passport when we enter any other country, even Canada and Mexico.

  3. Yes, you need one. If you don't have one, it's super easy to get. You can download the app at  www.travel.state.gov, go to walmart, fedex, cvs, or walgreens to take your picture, and then go to the post office to pay for it.  Teh pics are only $2. There is a very fast turnaround, about only 2 weeks and you should have it.

  4. No you do not need one until June 1, 2009.  It is recommended that you get one because if you get stuck in the Bahamas for some reason and don't have a passport you will have to go to the US Consolata to get one and will be delayed returning to US.

  5. According to the government website, no passport needed if you depart from a US port and return to a US port. However, some cruise lines are requiring passports. Best to call your cruise line and ask what their requirements are.

First time you apply for a passport you must apply in person. You can down load the forms from the government websites. All instructions are also posted.

Personally, I would get a passport and forget about worrying if the rules will change by next year. They are good for 10 years. We use ours for domestic travel all the time.

Good Luck and enjoy your cruise)
